North East England takes to the skies

The ‘Passionate people. Passionate places’ campaign has reached new heights thanks to a partnership with Eastern Airways.

A North East England branded aircraft that will help raise the region’s profile across the UK and into Europe.

Thousands of air travellers flying to and from 17 UK airports, including London City, and Brussels will see the liveried aircraft.  The Jetstream 41 aircraft carries the ‘Passionate people. Passionate places’ strapline along the fuselage and features a distinctive purple tail fin branded with the North East England logo. 

Eastern Airways operates over 13,000 flights a year from the region with 10,000 through Newcastle International Airport and 3,000 through Durham Tees Valley Airport.  The airline’s largest pilot and cabin crew base is located at Newcastle employing over 35 local people, with a further 16 based at Durham Tees Valley. 

In addition, Eastern Airways flies to more domestic destinations from Newcastle than any other carrier and last week launched the first ever air link from Durham Tees Valley to Brussels.

Stacy Hall, director of communications at One NorthEast, said: “The ‘Passionate people. Passionate places’ campaign is constantly evolving and we are continually looking for innovative ways to raise awareness of North East England regionally, nationally and internationally. This new venture is a bold way of communicating a strong regional message to a wide audience that includes influential business people, through Eastern Airways’ extensive route network.”

Chris Holliday, Eastern Airways’ chief operating officer, said: “This latest initiative makes for an exciting new partnership as we play a significant part in bringing people to North East England while One NorthEast also has a vital role attracting people and new business to the region. This aircraft will be seen throughout the UK and Europe and not only helps to promote our association with the region and routes to and from Newcastle International and Durham Tees Valley airports, but will further enhance awareness of North East England as a passionate place with passionate people.”

From Newcastle, Eastern flies to London City, Birmingham, Southampton, Cardiff, Aberdeen and the Isle of Man.  Brussels and Aberdeen is served from Durham Tees Valley.
